“THE BEES” knees
The days of the Minstrels and Versifiers of the Court have faded into history. Although they might be immortalised within the worlds of Shakespeare’s plays, if we’re honest, these days we are much more likely to find entertainment of an evening from an episode of “Outnumbered” than from a poetry recital.
Thankfully, to save us from ourselves, comes Carol Ann Duffy (our lovely Poet Laureate) crowned ‘THE POET’S POET’ with her lyrics of truth to enliven the British love of verse. For Duffy “Poetry is the music of being human” and her new collection “THE BEES” (only her second since she became Poet Laureate in 2009) is set to cover the stormy waterfront of desire, devotion and despair. Enjoy.
THE BEES IS OUT TOMORROW (£14.99, Picador). And on the 7th November, Carol Ann Duffy will be reading from The Bees at The Southbank Centre.
