Painted chinoiserie has transformed an insignificant space into a room that is rich in colour, pattern, texture and interest.
In effect an ante room between two larger rooms, this initially awkward space inspired Alidad to create a boudoir that is both functional and visually delightful. The starting point was to create
walls of storage, cleverly camouflaged by faux chinoiserie panels and a rich, lacquered paint effect. By painting onto canvas, which is then pasted to the doors, these have a textured and aged effect.
Paint effects have been used to transform modern doors into a piece of Chinese theatre. A painted design on the floor also adds a further layer of interest to existing parquet, adding to the success of the completed theme. The day bed has been distressed to make it appear old, covered with a bold gold-and-black silk. In such a small space, good lighting was of particular importance. This has been further enhanced by slivers of mirror carefully positioned around the wall which are lit by candles. Although used at all times of the day, the boudoir looks particularly romantic and mysterious by night.
