Alidad
“I love layered rooms - not just the obvious layers of colour and pattern,
but as if each layer represents a piece of history or time.”

Tapestry Drawing Room
A fabulously overscaled 17th- century tapestry creates drama and interest in this warm, relaxing drawing room.
Scale is of tremendous importance to Alidad when decorating. He uses it to trick the eye and make a room appear much bigger. This is the main drawing room of a period home, but in fact its dimensions are modest. By covering one wall entirely with an imposing antique tapestry, Alidad created the effect of this being a much grander and more imposing space than it actually is. The tapestry is also the foundation stone here for his layered look, but it is important to note that a lot of the surfaces - such as sofas and chairs - are plain. It is the combinations of cushions, throws and cloths that Alidad uses to embellish them - some old and some new - that brings the whole look together.
